Conference August 3, 2004

The PJNet’s first year is coming to an end. It’s been a great year for public journalism. We formed this new organization and have this vibrant website. The journalism establishment knows we are alive and well.

Most importantly with the advent of weblogs, new possibilities for public journalism and citizen involvement abound. There will be great opportunities for journalists and scholars.

Blogging is changing the political reporting landscape and as I mentioned in my Atlanta Journal Constitution op-ed piece, “In the past, citizens sought empowerment from the press, but in the future the press will receive empowerment from the people thanks to Weblogs, the people’s printing press.”

In the next couple of weeks we will be having a membership drive and already people are practicing with our weblog collective.

Mark you calendars now for Tuesday, August 3, 2004 for a special one-day conference in Toronto. It will precede the AEJMC convention. We’ll center the day around weglogs impact on journalism. We are aiming to bring in the heavy hitters. Stay tuned and have a wonderful New Year.
