Blog2Learn Workshop for Teachers Today
Today starts the five-day Blog2Learn workshop for Language Arts teachers in Cobb County and the Marietta City schools in Georgia. This is the second year that Kennesaw State University professors Michael Keleher, Dr. Earl Holliday and I have received an Improving Teacher Quality grant via No Child Left Behind for this project. It will extend into June, 2008.. 
Our aim is to teach teachers how to use blogs in the classroom. We have about 24 teachers attending, and we will be producing research with the help of Dr. Nikhil Moro on blogging in the classroom.
Last year we learned a lot about the obstacles to computing in classrooms. For example, we came to one high school for a workshop and found the school district had blocked the word blog. So much for my pontificating that they would be expanding the classroom walls to include the entire globe.
This year we are teaching within the confines of the system. Anne Davis is running our initial workshop. We are using Blogmeister because it was produced with classrooms in mind. It produces a strong secure site. It is a bit clunky, but it is serving our purposes and dealing with the obstacles. More later.
