The Debate Mistake — Confusing Sarah Palin with Tina Fey
I am no Sarah Palin fan. However, my guess is she will surprise a lot of folks in the upcoming debate. In our heads, at least in mine,we confuse the real Sarah Palin with the Tina Fey Palin, a whiny know nothing. Of course, that perception is reinforced by Palin’s actual interviews with Katie Couric and Charles Gibson.
So with all those perceptions etched in my consciousness, I was very surprised to see how calm, cool and collected she was in the Alaska gubernatorial debates. It might be that she knows Alaska well and apparently doesn’t know as much about the US economy and international affairs. That lack of knowledge could be her undoing, but I guess not.
Andrew Halcro, who debated her more than a dozen times in Alaska, writes in the Christian Science Monitor:
… she’s a master, not of facts, figures, or insightful policy recommendations, but at the fine art of the nonanswer, the glittering generality. Against such charms there is little Senator Biden, or anyone, can do.
Well almost no one. Two days after the Thursday debate the alternative Sarah Palin, Tina Fey, will be on Saturday Night Live and might again change our consciousness for better or worse depending on your point of view.
Of course, if you want to stick to the facts, then you might listen to the Christian Science Monitor interview with Halcro. It is fascinating.
