PJNet Project: Restoring Journalism’s Trust

Starting tomorrow with an interview I had with Davis “Buzz” Merritt, one of the founders of the public journalism movement, I am launching a series of Leonard Witt IM Interviews that I will be conducting over the next year. The theme of each will be Journalism and the Public: Restoring the Trust.

In addition I am looking at adding other events to it, including a symposium at Kennesaw State University in February. Watch this space over the next few months as the project unfolds, but be sure to return tomorrow to read the Buzz Merritt interview in which he gives his prognosis of what will happen if journalists don’t change their practices.

Here is a hint of what’s to come from Merritt:

The crunch of diminishing readership and resultant profit reductions has led too many companies to panic and reduce their level of journalism. This is a vicious spiral that apparently isn’t yet painful enough to force companies to look for fundamental new approaches. But it will be.
