“Citizen journalism” is a hot buzzword in our industry right now, and it’s likely not going away. Indeed, it could help journalists to rebuild some credibility and trust by letting the public in. That’s the subhead to an Editor & Publisher, Steve Outing article on citizen journalism being integrated into the mainstream news media.
It’s an article worth a read, he says in part:
Inviting the public to participate in online news publishing by contributing articles and photographs is likely here to stay — indeed, it might allow journalism institutions to renew some of the public trust they’ve lost in recent years by inviting the public in instead of keeping them outside the ropes.
