People’s Legislators to Gather in Wisconsin
An interesting development is Wisconsin. Worried that lobbyists out number legislators, people from all parts and parties in Wisconsin are invited to set their own agenda at the first “People’s Legislature” on January 4, 2005.
This from the Madison Wiconsin Capitol Times:
Already nearly 500 people have registered for the daylong event – it will begin at 11 a.m. and last until 7 p.m. so folks who can’t get off work can attend at least part of it. They are coming from all 72 Wisconsin counties. They will represent all sorts of political persuasions – Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens and just plain interested citizens. The idea is to send a message to the elected legislators the very day after they’ve been sworn in for another session that once again promises to do nothing more than spend its time debating gay marriage, schemes to hamstring local governments, and how best to one-up each other or the governor.
