Civic Journalist Dan Suwyn Leaving Savannah News

This from the Savannah Morning News:

Savannah Morning News Managing Editor M. Daniel Suwyn, the newsroom’s second-in-command for the past decade, resigned Tuesday.

Suwyn announced his departure during an emotional staff meeting held in the state-of-the-art newsroom he helped design. He said he was leaving to pursue other interests he could not explore while at the paper.

“Dan has been instrumental in developing both the investigative and civic journalism that connects us to our community,” Executive Editor Rexanna Lester said. “We are grateful that he shared his writing, editing and design talent with us in addition to his sense of humor.”

Twice the paper won the prestigious James K. Batten award for Excellence in Civic Journalism for series that Suwyn guided on aging and education.
