Guardian Adds Citizen Travel Feature to Redesign
You probably already know that The Guardian went tabloid or really Berliner earlier this week, but it also is redesigning its relationship to its audience, saying:
The relaunched Guardian signals not just a change for the look of the newspaper but a redefining of aspects of our journalism in a digital age which brings the paper and Guardian Unlimited, its network of websites, into a new phase. Our engagement with a global audience of over 10 million is the basis for a number of new editorial features in the newspaper.
We are launching an ambitious travel project called Been There, which will create guides to cities for readers by readers. The Guardian’s travel section will feature one destination a week and we have already started a broad database of cities, to which we expect readers to contribute – or even start their own.
They will also be having citizen input on obituaries, culture pages and will have an editors blog, like the Dallas Morning News.
Thanks to Eric Samson who is blogging about public journalism in Spanish for the tip.
Oh, by the way, if you are interested in newspaper design, check out NewsDesigner.com by Mark Friesen, a news designer at The Oregonian in Portland, Oregon. It will give you an idea of what newspapers look like around the world.
