CBS’s Public Eye Sets Sight on Citizen Journalism

In a Public Eye post at CBS it wrings its hands over the opportunities and concerns that citizen journalism poses. Key line might be:

As…traditional outlets take their baby steps towards integrating citizen journalism it will be interesting to see how much ground they are willing to seed to the non-professionals – and how much the non-professionals want to have to do with the traditional news outlets in the first place.

And then in its public comments section introduction, it disinfects the process by writing:

Now you’re in the public comment zone. What follows is not CBS News stuff; it comes from other people and we don’t vouch for it.

The introduction to Public Eye says:

Public Eye’s fundamental mission is to bring transparency to the editorial operations of CBS News — transparency that is unprecedented for broadcast and online journalism.
